nAlthough we have a lot of appliances within our home that all require the power of electricity there are certain areas that we should aim to concentrate on more than others, one of these areas is the biggest appliances in our home, such as our cookers, refrigerators and washing machines, but as, in most homes, around 10-15% of your electricity bill comes from your lighting, it is advisable that you look at ways in which you can reduce this; one of the best ways in which you can achieve this is through your choice of light bulb. Traditional bulbs are really bad when it comes to wasting a lot of energy; they take a lot of energy due to the fact that create a lot of heat. With energy saving bulbs however this waste of energy is contained. They work in the same way as fluorescent lights, this is thanks to the fact the tubes coating glows brightly as an electric current passed through gas in the tube.

nAlthough energy saving bulbs are more expensive than traditional bulbs they actually end up being a lot cheaper in the long run, making them a great investment. The reason for this is because they last over 10 times longer than traditional bulbs and use up to four times less energy. Think about it this way, if you have been using a traditional bulb that is 100w you would be able to replace this with a 20-25w energy saving bulb. With this in mind it would serve you well to actually replace all of your bulbs in your home with these energy saving ones.

nYou can use these energy saving bulbs in your main lights but on top of this you should also be able to use these in your lamps as well, but that’s not all. Changing your choice of light bulb is just the starting point when it comes to reducing the amount of electricity you are using; you should also be aiming to ensure that none of your lighting is in use when you are not in the room. Every time you leave a room you should ensure that all of the lights are turned off, there is absolutely no reason for these to be on and by doing this you will be saving electricity, which then ensures you are saving money.
n
nAs well as in your home, another place that a lot of people tend to use lighting is in the garden. If you are a fan of outdoor lighting then again you should be taking the necessary steps to ensure that you are saving electricity wherever possible, a great way of doing this is through the use of solar lights. These will ensure you get the lighting you want for your garden without using any electricity, which saves you money and helps the environment.
n
nBy simply ensuring the above and reducing your use of lighting as much as you can you will be dramatically cutting the amount of electricity that you are using. Anything that ensures your use of electricity is reduced is worth looking into so start putting these tips into action now and you will soon start to see a difference where your electricity bill is concerned.
